We chatted to Dr Eric about the passion that led him to a career in dentistry, what he finds most rewarding about his work, and how he spends his weekends away from the dental chair.
His calm, friendly nature and genuine care for his patients make him a trusted favourite with everyone he meets.
Tell us a bit about your background and what led you to pursue a career in dentistry
From a young age, I always knew I wanted a career where I could help people in a meaningful way, and I was certain it would be in healthcare. Dentistry appealed to me because it combines science, skill, and compassion in a very tangible way.
I studied dentistry on the Gold Coast before moving to Brisbane to practise. Along the way, I’ve met incredible mentors and patients who’ve reaffirmed my love for this profession.
What do you enjoy most about being a dentist?
What I enjoy most about being a dentist is having the unique opportunity to not only improve someone’s health, but also their confidence. A healthy smile can truly change how a person feels about themselves and knowing I’ve played a part in that transformation is incredibly rewarding.
Is there a particular area of dentistry you’re especially interested in?
Yes, I have a strong interest in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. I’m drawn to how these areas blend science with artistry, allowing me to restore function while also enhancing a patient’s appearance and self-esteem.
There’s nothing quite like seeing a patient look in the mirror after treatment and smile with genuine confidence. Those moments never get old.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I love keeping active. I play competitive volleyball on the weekends, which is a great way to unwind and challenge myself. On quieter days, I enjoy going for long strolls or taking on a scenic hike, which lets me get outdoors and recharge.
What advice do you have for people who’ve been putting off booking a dental appointment?
For anyone feeling nervous or hesitant about visiting the dentist, I completely understand, it’s more common than you might think. My advice is to simply book a consultation, not necessarily a treatment. It’s an opportunity to have a relaxed chat, ask questions, and discuss any concerns you might have without any pressure. A good dentist will always take the time to listen, explain things clearly, and make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way.
