Endodontics and Root Canal Treatment
Endodontic procedures can only be carried out by highly specialised dentists. At DentArana, we can carry out a range of endodontic procedures pertaining to the pulp or nerve of the teeth. Our modern dental clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by a team of highly skilled specialists with experience in root canal treatments. When infection spreads to the dental pulp within the tooth, you may experience severe pain, tooth sensitivity and swelling/tenderness in the gums.
Endodontic treatment is centred around treating issues with the dental pulp. In cases of severe infection or advanced gum disease, a root canal can save the affected tooth and eliminate infection. This will involve the removal of the infected or dead dental pulp, after which the canal will be reshaped, and a filling placed on the tooth.
Symptoms of an infected, inflamed or dead dental pulp
You may require endodontic treatment if you notice any of the following symptoms:
- Pain or pressure around a particular tooth
- Sudden increase in tooth sensitivity
- Swollen, tender gums around the affected tooth
- Discolouration around an affected tooth
- Build up of pus around the affected tooth
- Facial swelling
Following an initial consultation and X-rays, DentArana will advise you as to whether root canal treatment will be necessary. In some cases, it may be possible to preserve part of the dental pulp. If disease has already begun to spread, it may need to be removed entirely.
Endodontic Procedures at DentArana
- Root Canal treatment – required in cases where the dental pulp is irreversibly damaged. Root canal can eliminate infection and save a tooth which would otherwise need to be extracted.
- Periradicular Surgery
- Apicoectomy
Benefits of Endodontic Treatment
It is always best to preserve natural teeth where possible, as replacing teeth is a costly, time-consuming process. Root canal treatment has a high success rate of around 95%, but it is important to visit your dentist as soon as possible if you notice any of the aforementioned symptoms.
Root canal therapy can:
- Prevent tooth loss
- Stop the spread of infection
- Relieve tooth pain
- Improve your oral health and overall wellbeing
Is Root Canal Treatment Painful?
Many people are under the impression that root canal treatment is painful, however having an infected or decayed tooth is much more painful than the treatment itself. Root canals are carried out under anaesthesia, and our experienced team strive to make the process as quick and pain-free as possible. Many patients feel no pain at all and are glad to be relieved of the pain and discomfort after receiving treatment.
